Obesity and the Poor

By Sara Mendez

In 2002 obesity among the poor climbed 147%, according to medicinenet.com. Those in the poverty level are the fastest growing group when it comes to obesity. Often the reasons they are obese are due to things largely out of their control. Obesity among the poor can be attributed to many things however the most common are lack of exercise, food choices and no access to health food stores or supermarkets.

Living in government assisted housing, commonly known as "projects" are typical housing for those who are poor. The projects play host to gangs, shootings, and other more serious crimes. Many children and families report this as the number one reason they do not get out an exercise, they are too scared to be outside at all. Projects often do not have playgrounds, sidewalks or lawns where families or children can play. If there is a playground near by often it is a central meeting place for gangs and gang activity, again making it a less than ideal hang out for children or individuals looking for a place to exercise.

Imagine living off of Cup O'Noodle, macaroni and cheese and Hamburger Helper every night for dinner. This is a reality of those on food stamps or other food assistance programs. Trying to eat healthy on food stamps is near impossible. Often those who use foods stamps have many mouths to feed and they need to stretch the money as far as it will go. The Department of Human Services suggests buy cheep staple foods. Families who are on food stamps do not care how healthy or unhealthy a dinner or lunch is as long as their families are eating.

Poor families are not generally thinking about buying organic foods and other food substitutes such as Egg Beaters or tofu as they are too expensive and food stamps generally do not cover expensive items when there are other alternatives such as real eggs. Many times low income families don't even bother with a grocery list of items as there are no grocery stores anywhere near their homes and lugging $400.00 worth of groceries on a bus alone is not easy.

Large cities such as New York, Chicago or Atlanta often lack a supermarket or health food store in close proximity to inner city living. Many project tenets find groceries at Circle K's or Quickie Marts which generally stock cheep foods but they are not always healthy foods. Sciencedaily.com reports that one of the leading reasons of obesity among the poor is lack of grocery stores in their neighborhoods. There are no farmers markets offering organic produce or health food stores with tofu, these people get what they can at corner markets.

Being poor is no reason to let your health suffer. However when it comes to trying to better yourself or become more healthy, the odds are defiantly against you if you are in the low income bracket. It has become more important then ever to take care of yourself regardless of your income level. The rising costs of health care are not going down, and by being obese you are not part of the solution. - 31857

Improve Your Confidence Through Self Confidence Hypnosis

By Sarah Keys

Confidence or Self confidence is one quality that is considered a virtue, which is why I'm writing about it. This quality makes us and lack of it breaks us. It doesn't matter who we are, our background, intelligence, good looks etc, once we are not confident in ourselves, all the other quality won't shine through. Put it this way: Self confidence is the booster of all our other qualities. If you were born a timid person and you are no more cool with timidity, you can do something about it. Hypnosis can help you become a very confident person. Think of all the things you did not do because you lacked the confidence to do them; believe it or not lack of confidence robs us all the time. Ok, say you now believe in yourself and nothing sways you, what are the things you'd go for? What can your other qualities powered by confidence help you achieve? And what would all these achievements mean to you?

Hypnosis happens everyday whether we are aware of it or not. Through thing we say or do repetitively, we can hypnotize ourselves or people around us without realizing what we've done. I'll give you a common example. By chance you must have come across or heard of a guy who by all standards is not conventionally attractive, doesn't have the best education neither is he rich, yet his endearing corkiness is beyond measures. He is popular with the ladies, the guys secretly wish to behave like him, even the Boss at his workplace has no other option than to like him. And one question keeps resounding in your head: what on earth made him become like that? The answer to that question is that a girl who has treated him or is still treating him like a king, made him like that. Nevertheless if you are all by yourself with no one to boost your confidence, you can still build yourself into that person you want to be through hypnosis.

To successfully achieve self confidence through hypnosis, you must have an unwavering motivation; this is not exactly rocket science. Just having the faith that confidence hypnosis works and therefore will give you the confidence you want, will not make life any much easier for you. Instead strong motivation to rid yourself of low self esteem and swim in confidence should be your starting point towards a successful hypnosis. Hypnosis happens at the subconscious level, the subconscious mind becomes more open and receptive of suggestions in the presence of passion and strong motivation.

You may be a trick expert, but one trick that you can never succeed at is fooling your subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is just that powerful and responds to desire and will. If you are not equiped with deep motivation to make a change, your subconscious mind will not move an inch by your week suggestions. So if you are indifferent about your lack of confidence, turning to hypnosis may not work for you even if you have the most powerful hypnosis guide. You may now start to worry if your motivation is deep enough or not... One thing you have to bear in mind is that once you start acting on any goal you dream to accomplish, the motivation kicks in, and more actions will make this motivation get deeper. The motivation could even be made stronger by understanding why you actually want to make that change and what it will mean to you if you succeed. Be honest with yourself for honesty is also a motivator. This is where you really need to thoroughly grind yourself, because in the realization of truth lies your path to success.

If you are really serious about gaining confidence through hypnosis, one good way to go is getting a good guide on hypnosis that covers everything from confidence hypnosis, to persuasion and through seduction hypnosis. Assuming you start a hypnotherapy session with a good hypnotist and afterwards become a confident person; if you do not understand the principles that govern hypnosis, and can't get others to see things your way, how fulfilled will you feel with your "just confident" self? It is clear that the rewarding bit lies in influencing other people's thoughts and decisions, as that is what makes you phenomenal, makes you more money, saves you money, secures dates for you, and just makes life more fun. - 31857

How to Use Covert Persuasion To Help Others And Improve Your Sales

By George Hutton

If you've ever wondered about whether or not it is ethical to persuade somebody using covert methods, then this article is for you. I'd like to dispel some of the myths about convert persuasion. When used correctly, covert persuasion can be the best way to respectfully suggest a course of action to a client, loved on, or potential date.

The first breakthrough idea is that most people simply are too timid to make decisions. That is why people will always gravitate towards a strong leader. The truth is that most people are followers. Study after study has shown this to be true. Even when researchers have taken a group of obvious "followers" and put them into a group together, an obvious leader quickly emerges.

The drawback to this fact, is that while many people like to go along with others way of doing things, most people like to feel as though they've at least had their say in the matter, one way or the other.

Being able to involve the customer in the decision making process is a powerful method of ensuring their long term loyalty.

A great benefit of involving the customer in the sales process is that you will greatly reduce any instances of "buyer's remorse." If you've ever gotten home and found yourself with a product that you don't want or need, you know exactly what I'm talking about. You can avoid this altogether with the right techniques.

When you effectively use covert persuasion, this rarely happens. People are very happy to go along with your way of thinking. They usually even come back for more, and tell their friends.

Because you are reading this, you can really begin to understand the persuasive power this can give you. You may even begin to imagine all the different ways you can use these ideas in your life to help others, and make lots of money. You are only limited by your creativity and resourcefulness. - 31857

Your Body Weight: Reflections of Your Perceptions and Beliefs

By Theresa Johnson, CHT

If you are someone who believes that making changes is difficult, for instance changing one's eating habits, then you have been trying to change habits on the conscious level only rather then the subconscious level where habits are actually programmed. Traditional diets can work, you can lose weight healthfully and effectively and keep it off if you create these changes in your subconscious mind. When changes are made in the subconscious mind where your long-term memories, beliefs and perceptions are stored, you in turn make changes to your thought process. Change your thoughts and you change your life! That's right, and as a result, you can actually change your behaviors and your reactions easily with little to no conscious effort on your part. "How can you do such a remarkable thing?" you may be asking. The answer is with hypnosis. A trained professional hypnotist can assist you in accessing your the powerful subconscious mind to help you make your desired changes.

Now I am sure that you have heard "if something is not working for you, change what you are doing." Right? And surely you've heard "do what you've always done and get what you've always got". Well that is exactly what is happening to most people who have been unable to lose weight effectively and keep it off. They have continued to do what they have always done and they continue to get what they've always gotten. Let's make that statement even more specific "If you THINK what you've always THOUGHT, then you will get what you've always got." It is in making the changes in that thinking process, in that belief and perception process, where hypnosis is extremely effective.

Hypnosis is a state of altered consciousness, similar to daydreaming. For the purposes of hypnotherapy it is used as a process that crosses the critical, analytical, judgement part of the conscious mind in order to access the powerful subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is the part of the mind where your long-term memories are stored, hence, where "perception and belief programming" is stored.

75% of our beliefs about ourselves have been imprinted into our subconscious by the age of 7. Therefore, the majority of our personality is determined by the time we are 7. (That puts a whole new twist to "acting like a child" doesn't it.) This knowledge is useful for hypnosis age regression. In a hypnotic state an individual can mentally journey back into their past safely and objectively and look at the frame work of beliefs that were established at a young age and then move forward bit by bit to review what other beliefs were established based on the original ones.

Imagination is the "language" of the subconscious mind. It is very much like the mind of a young child. It creates through imagination and believes what it hears. The subconscious mind takes in whatever it has been given and the conscious mind acts upon it. As W. Clement Stone said " What the mind can conceive the mind can achieve." The subconscious mind unlike the conscious mind will accept what it hears and if it has been fed negative information, it absorbs it as fact. If you have been thinking of yourself as fat and that is mainly what you focus on then that is exactly what you experience in life. Therefore, you can understand that what you are feeding your mind is as important as what you feed your body. In hypnotherapy, the hypnotherapist presents positive suggestions to your subconscious mind. Those positive suggestions are what you want for you, not what the hypnotherapist wants for you. We work together to clarify what it is that you want for yourself and we put that in the most positive language possible and feed it to your subconscious mind. Once that new information is in place in the long-term memory of the subconscious, your conscious mind can begin to act upon it. Ultimately you will then act in the new way that is in balance with your conscious desires. - 31857

Subliminal Perception In A Nutshell

By Trevor Johnson

Subliminal perception was used in the 1920s on British radio stations. Radio was a new concept and many people took it as being sinister, so BBC started putting subliminal messages in its jingles. Even the book 1984, by George Orwell, mentions the use of subliminal ideas. Stores put messages in their music being piped through the building, to discourage theft. Cartoons also supply subliminal messages to children and parents alike.

Many department stores have piped music laced with subliminal anti-theft messages through their stores, in hopes to curb shoplifting. People enjoy clothes they see advertised on television and songs they hear frequently on the radio. Spotting this kind of below-conscious message is all part of the fun of being involved in modern day life.

There have been countless studies performed where stimuli is given, then the correlation between that amount of stimuli and how much someone likes something is reported. The studies show that the more familiar someone becomes with something, the more s/he likes it.

One experiment that has taken place involves ten pairs of polygons (mutli sided shapes). There are twenty individual polygons and the person taking part in the experiment will view each pair; one polygon is viewed directly and the other subliminally.

The majority of the time, people would choose the polygon that was subliminally flashed in front of them over the one directly shown. Which strongly suggests that we perceive things subliminally, even if we don't consciously recognize this.

Repetitious visual or auditory stimuli will increase the desire for a particular object. Subliminal stimuli greatly influences the cognitive processes in humans, and possibly alters behavior. From cartoons to politics, subliminal perception is everywhere. The FCC has tried to curb this occurrence by revoking broadcasting licenses of companies if they are found using subliminal messages. - 31857

Learn By Making Subliminal Recordings

By Trevor Johnson

The brain is a truly amazing organ and our understanding of how it works and how we subliminally learn is something that is always increasing.

Recently, more and more evidence is being unearthed to show that the brain is just as receptive to new information whilst we are asleep. In fact, the brain may actually be more efficient during this time as its regular source of external stimulation has been cut off.

This knowledge has been with us for some time but has recently received the support of leading scientist investigating how the brain functions.

So, we ask ourselves, how can we make use of this interesting knowledge? How can I make my own subliminal recording? It occurs to us all, I'm sure, that being able o learn some new skills whilst we sleep would be pretty useful! What better way to make use of this time. And without the strain of studying too!

No matter what your station or occupation, there are opportunities to apply these theories. Language learning immediately springs to mind. The gentle cadences of foreign languages would be readily absorbed subliminally. But equally there many applications for all, ranging from students who have to learn often repetitive information, to those of us who just love learning for it's own sake.

All you need to start learning subliminally is a very simple tape recorder and the subject matter you would like to learn. If you are computer orientated then voice recording can be very simply done. Recite and record the information very slowly and clearly and simply play it back whilst you sleep.

Even better, try to incorporate some music into your recording as this helps the brain. Research suggests that the technique is much more effective with music as many different parts of the brain are engaged.

This process of learning through your own subliminal recordings will, of course, take some time but rewards will be worth it when all are amazed with your new learning! - 31857
